OTR Global's Cyclicals group is looking for a Research Associate to join its global team. The Research Associate's initial responsibility will be building and maintaining a dependable list of industry contacts, conducting in-depth interviews by phone and contributing the resulting information to research reports. Over time, the Research Associate will take leadership of running projects, writing reports, and helping develop a pipeline of new coverage topics. The Research Associate will also analyze research data and facilitate research report preparation and conduct secondary research. The individual in this role will be covering a broad array of topics within the industrial and transportation industry. They will work closely with Director of Cyclicals Research and other researchers in the team to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment audience. This is a unique opportunity to work with and learn from one of the most differentiated investment research companies in the securities industry.
Individual for this role is based in the continental U.S. Candidates based in Westchester, NY or Champaign, IL may have the benefit of hybrid work schedule option.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience or applicable academic record, reporting, researching, analyzing and/or writing about industry trends; knowledge of the financial industry and investment basics a plus.
  • Ability to network in remote setting and develop new sources across various industries, and maintain relationships over time for recurring in-depth dialogue.
  • Ability to quickly get up to speed on key trends shaping a specific industry, identify inflections; experience with financial writing a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to "connect the dots" and clearly articulate research conclusions.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, proactive thinking, ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and work under pressure; schedule flexibility a must.

Researcher/Reporter - Network Communications

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

OTR Global's Network Communications group is looking for a Researcher in the U.S. to join its global team. The individual in this role will work closely with senior researchers in the group to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment audience by conducting primary research. The Network Communications Researcher should be able to efficiently develop new relationships with industry professionals - typically senior managers of North American wireless carriers and network operators, service partners for public cloud providers, wholesalers, and other high-level individuals - and maintain those relationships over time.
The Researcher needs to be creative, curious, and most of all determined to build a dependable list of contacts often viewed as difficult to reach. The Reporter’s primary responsibility will be conducting in-depth interviews and contributing source feedback to research reports. Regular writing opportunities may be assigned after showing ability to deliver high quality source interviews, so clear, concise writing and communication skills are other important aspects of this role. This is a telecommuting position, and a unique opportunity to work with and learn from one of the most differentiated investment research companies in the securities industry.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in investigative reporting, research and/or network engineering and network infrastructure for wireless service providers; knowledge of the financial industry and investment basics a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in telecommunications or experience in journalism and research of network communications topics.
  • Ability to develop new sources across various network communications, infrastructure and cloud services topics, and maintain relationships over time in a virtual setting; existing high-level wireless carrier, components OEMs and service partners sources a plus.
  • Understanding of the key trends shaping the telecommunications carrier and supplier landscape and LTE/5G technologies development, and ability to identify inflections in those trends; knowledge of network components industry, data center and cloud technologies a plus.

  • Must be available for occasional travel to key industry events in North America for in-person networking/source development opportunities.

Research Associate - Part Time - Santa Fe, New Mexico

Roles and Responsibilities

The job of an OTR Global Research Associate is to gather unbiased information on companies and industries through telephone interviews with a variety of sources in numerous sectors, including Professional Contractor, Industrial Supply, Construction Rental Equipment, Auto Parts, Retail and Restaurants, and record the information cultivated from those source interactions into an online information system. This position pays $20 per hour. There are 1-5 shifts per week, 5-25 hours per week, for 5- 6 hours per shift in our Santa Fe office. This is a part time position so there are no benefits.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL qualifications

  • Must be computer literate, know Excel well. Be able to utilize and toggle between multiple windows at once and multi task.
  • Prior experience or solid understanding of Home Improvement, Industrial Supply, Construction Rental Equipment, Auto Parts and Retail and/or Restaurant sectors a plus
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivated and confidence
  • Tenacious and resilient and able to handle rejection with cold calls
  • The ability to quickly assimilate information on new subjects

The Technology Researcher should be able to efficiently develop new relationships with industry professionals in France - typically enterprise hardware and network security companies’ implementation partners, resellers and distributors, and other high-level individuals - and maintain those relationships over time.

Reporter in Spain - Part-Time

OTR Global is seeking a Reporter based in Spain to join its global team covering a variety of topics, primarily in the consumer products and retail sectors. The Spanish Reporter will work closely with other researchers on the team in Europe, the Americas and Asia, to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. Individual in this role should be able to efficiently develop new relationships with industry professionals in Spain - typically store managers, buyers, suppliers, and other supply chain professionals - and maintain them over time. The Reporter’s primary responsibility will be conducting in-depth interviews with these sources, and contributing source feedback to reports. Effective source development and interviewing skills are key aspects of the role. Attention to detail, analytical thinking and timely communication are other important elements.  The individual in this role will be part of a global team of researchers based in different regions. This is a part time and project-based remote/ telecommuting position. Candidates based in Madrid or Barcelona may get priority consideration.

Personal and Professional Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the Spanish market, and of the key trends shaping retail and consumer products market; ability to identify changes in those trends.
  • Extensive network of relevant contacts in Spain, beyond public relations and investor relations; ability to network and develop new sources is key.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in retail, merchandising, merchandise procurement, or researcher who covers these topics; investigative journalism, or market research firm experience a plus.
  • Ability to obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes. Ability to analyze and identify essential findings; spot trends, understand and articulate changes and underlying factors driving change
  • Strong organizational skills; an ideal candidate is a quick learner and able to multitask and meet deadlines, communicates and responds in a timely fashion.

Field Force - Store Visits Opportunity

Do you love to shop? Are you passionate about brands and fashion trends? Do you pay attention to details while at the stores? Or maybe someone you know fits this description really well? OTR Global is seeking individuals in different U.S. geographies to join its Field Force team and help with occasional store visits as part of its retail research.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
You are asked to visit specific retail stores a couple of times a quarter in your area, conduct in-person observations about brands and products, and engage in a brief conversation with store personnel about trends during your store visit. You will share your observations and findings with the research team by entering information into the online portal, following your store visit(s). In many cases, members of our Field Force develop knowledge of stores and merchandise to recognize patterns and changes over time. Field Force members are always excited about the opportunity to visit some of their favorite retailers checking on brands they love to shop.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

Depending on your location and your proximity to specific retailers, you may be asked to visit one to five different stores over the course of two weeks, and participate in more than one project per quarter. Flexibility is great - projects can be completed within a two-week time period, so they are easy to fit into your schedule and plans.

TRAINING AND COMMUNICATION
Being part of this team means gathering insights and doing research across the entire country, with other Field Force team members conducting the same store visits in other regions at the same time. Training and coaching is provided, and team members communicate directly with the Field Force manager.
